I have always been overweight but my weight problem was getting worse and I had become a complete couch potato. Being overweight I have always found gyms intimidating and was attracted by the outdoor location. I joined Boot Camp in August and have been a regular ever since; at first I found it hard but persevered and I still attend three times a week. I have lost 35lbs since I joined, there is no magic cure to weight loss just diet and exercise. I still have a long way to go but know that with Spencer's help I will get there.

I have to admit that I was somewhat apprehensive when I, nearer to 70 than 60 enrolled myself in The Boot Camp but I am delighted to report that I have survived and enjoyed my first month.

The good things about the Boot Camp are:
The surroundings and the fact that we are out in the open air
We are all there because we want to be there and are motivated to make progress
We are encouraged and cajoled by Spencer, a Gentle Giant, who has us all power walking, jogging, running (in my case very slowly- but then I haven’t run for half a century) up hill and down dale plus lots of aerobic exercises. He gradually pushes us all a bit further. The wide range of ages doesn’t seem to be a problem and all progress is relative
We all support and encourage each other and there is no fall out
Amazingly we all enjoy the session and leave in a high state of exhilaration feeling that we have achieved something

The secret of the Boot Camps success is that it is challenging and fun.

"I initially joined boot camp to kick-start a healthier lifestyle running up to my wedding day. The first session was great; a real eye-opener to how unfit I actually was (I couldn’t run one lap of the field without thinking I couldn’t breathe properly). I was sceptical about getting fit in such a short space of time, but committed to completing the course as I enjoyed training in the beautiful surroundings so much. By the beginning of the fourth week, I was running laps of the field even after warm up, core strengthening exercises and stints around the forest. I’ve signed up for another three months as it really has been the best thing for me. I feel great, have more energy and feel fitter than I have in such a long time. "I signed up for Boot Camp after a long period of inactivity.

I have always been a gym member but find repetitive activity in the same room frankly boring. Finally, due to a reoccurring back problem, I was advised to stop all gym work but look for other ways to strengthen my core. I signed up with Spencer for a months course beginning of October and now mid-November I am 10lbs lighter, a lot fitter and pain free.

Additionally, I have had an extremely challenging work schedule for the last 6 weeks and yet I seem to have loads more energy. Breathing fresh air in beautiful surroundings, a friendly bunch of ladies who don't care about getting muddy and Spencer's encouraging tuition are a great combination. There's a team spirit you don't get in a gym and you never know what you're going to do next. The activity is varied on forest terrain so your whole body is exercised naturally and it is fun! You do work hard, but you can go at your own pace, (Spencer doesn't let you slack).
